Case Study 2: Training Fishermen to Safeguard Protected Species
Client Profile: A federal government agency responsible for fishing regulations.
Client Challenge: One of this agency’s responsibilities is to inform commercial fisherman and vessel owners about regulations affecting protected species. These regulations include specifications to avoid contact with protected species and how to care for protected species that are caught during fishing operations. information had been delivered solely in a classroom workshop, which required vessel owners and captains to schedule time and make travel arrangements. This agency wanted to deliver the information in a more convenient and timely way to enhance compliance.
techniques.org Solution: techniques.org converted the classroom workshop into a dynamic e-learning course that is SCORM conformant. To accommodate both visual and auditory learners, the narration matches the screen text, and the screen text was written in a concise, simple style. The course is easily navigated to satisfy a wide range of learners’ technology skills and includes a substantial number of images to engage the learner. For example, glossary terms are not only defined, but feature relevant images to improve learner retention.
The online format offers advantages to both the federal agency and to vessel owners and captains. Agency representatives can easily update the course to reflect frequently changing regulations, and vessel owners and captains have the option of selecting an online course and avoiding the logistics required to attend a classroom workshop. This course was originally developed in English and is now being converted to Korean and Vietnamese language versions, as well.
