Case Study 3: Helping Those Living with a Chronic Disease
Client Profile: This national nonprofit organization provides far-reaching services throughout the country to those living with a chronic disease.
Client Challenge: This organization saw the need to develop a series of online courses to provide comprehensive information to individuals and families living with this chronic disease. The organization wanted online, on-demand content so those living with this disorder could access the information at anytime to help them make informed decisions regarding their health and life style.
techniques.org Solution: techniques.org has an affinity for the mission of this nonprofit group, yet the project poses untraditional training challenges in that the desired outcome isn’t enhanced employee performance or improved organizational efficiency. Instead an effective training product must deliver vital and often-complex information in a clear and understandable way and inspire individuals to take ownership of some of their most personal decisions.
To make this project truly effective, techniques.org is placing a strong emphasis on worksheets and other dynamic learning aids and tools that can be personalized and, thus, allow individuals to make unique decisions for their unique circumstances. We are also ensuring that the text is informative without being directive or prescriptive.
This project involves using the client’s learning management system (LMS), and techniques.org is ensuring the courseware is SCORM-conformant and fulfills Section 508 specifications. Through our interactions with the client and our own research, we learned that individuals living with this chronic condition may face challenges in the form of attention span and other cognitive issues, mobility constraints, and so on. Therefore, we are creating courseware that is easy to follow, is divided into manageable elements, is respectful and appropriate in tone, and features elements that can be personalized so learning can be brought to a deeper level.
After completing the interactive courseware, audience members will have the knowledge, support, and just-in-time resources needed to feel empowered and confident when making decisions related to their chronic condition.
